#Votingmatters is a new campaign from #Emilymatters. which champions gender equality and encourages young women to vote, ensuring that legacies of women, such as suffragette Emily Davison, are not forgotten.
A new #Emilymatters website is in development and will be online in the New Year.

It’s now only 5 months to the UK general election.
The #votingmatters social media campaign was inspired by the women I spoke to at the Scottish Independence Referendum. Scotland continues to lead the way when the new First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, announced a new cabinet with a 50/50 gender balance and pledging to put equality at the heart of government.

There are now less than 5 months to go before the UK general election, so there’s plenty to talk about and ideas to share. The first Why #votingmatters Twitter chat had a terrific response.
With only 39% of women aged 18-24 voted in 2010, it’s time for #DeedsANDWords.
Firstly, if you haven’t already registered to vote, you can do so online now in under 5 minutes.
Not sure if you’re already registered or if you have any other questions about it:
– Contact your local Electoral Services Office.

Mehvash suggested we run a questions poll, so that’s what we’re doing.
- Tell us which question you’d most like to be included in December’s chat.
- Please share this post, so more people can get involved.
- Then take part in the Why #votingmatters Twitter chat – Wednesday 10 December, 7.30-8pm GMT.
Following on from the last Twitter chat, we want to hear what is/isn’t working in politics and how we can encourage more young people to vote.
Together we can make a positive difference, just like the suffragettes, whose creativity and solidarity saw them through the worst of times and brought about change for good.
HOW THE TWITTER CHAT WORKS:
- Format: 30 minutes
- 3 questions (including the most popular 1 from the ballot)
- Follow @Emilymatters for the questions & RTs
- Take a look at the #votingmatters hashtag
- If you can’t join us this time, we’ll be sharing a storify shortly
