#Emilymatters is a social media campaign, inspired by suffragette Emily Davison, that champions gender equality and has a specific focus on voting matters.

Since our launch in the House of Commons, as part of a special event that included a performance of To Freedom’s Cause, my play about Emily Davison, #Emilymatters has been promoting grass roots engagement.

See our #Emilymatters page to find out more about what we do.

Ambitious Plans for 2018 & Beyond:

I’m working with the team on a series of innovative new projects with a community focus, which will include To Freedom’s Cause and draw on the campaign’s outreach work to date.

We passionately believe that equality and democracy matter.

We’re looking for people who share our vision to help us take the campaign to the next level.

Whether that be through advice, mentoring or skills.

Enthusiasm and commitment are key.

Areas that would be most useful at this time are:

  • Project management
  • PR/marketing
  • Fundraising
  • Social media
  • Website design

Let’s do Emily and her sister suffragettes proud and ensure that more women and young people get better informed and understand that their voices matter!

Tradition is not to preserve the ashes, but to pass on the fire.

This quotation crystallises our passion for drawing on Emily Davison’s legacy to continue the Cause.

.

The new #Emilymatters projects will combine creative resources relating to and including To Freedom’s Cause with our contemporary outreach campaign work. We aim to further develop our uniquely personal and universal message that encourages participants to step up, vote and lead.

If you believe that equality and democracy matter, please do get in touch.

A Brief Overview of Our Work to Date:

Our voting matters campaign work first began during the 2014 European & local elections, then further developed during the Scottish Independence Referendum with our #DearLauren project that began with a conversation with a Lauren, a first time voter and has collected messages and vox pops from across the globe, including most recently the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon.

In the autumn of 2014 Team #Emilymatters was formed and together we created several new initiatives, including Twitter chats.

We began to build our community based outreach work adding an interactive performance to talks and workshops. In addition, we continued to extend our social media reach throughout the 2015 UK General Election and 2016 Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish & local elections.

Our current focus is the EU Referendum and we’re also watching with interest the build up to the US Presidential elections.
