MAXINE KWOK – Music

What’s inspired YOU during Lockdown – collage image by Kate Willoughby.

Being a member of the London Symphony Orchestra we had our entire season cancelled from March to June which was devastating for the orchestra,  administration and audience alike.

I was therefore thrilled to be a part of the LSO’s first concert back in July with the “LSO Summer Shorts” series. Julian Gil Rodriguez and I performed a duo violin concert at LSO St. Luke’s for a distanced audience and it was streamed live online.

Having had no music making for months, it was an incredibly emotional experience to once again share in creating something, with the bonus of having the engagement of listeners in the hall with us.

In November it was a privilege to be asked to make a short film about creativity in lockdown London. It was a joint venture between Culture Mile, the LSO and Brookfield Properties wanting to highlight what was happening in the City. I teamed up with composer Darren Bloom, filmmaker Antonia Luxem and dancer Marie Astrid Mence to create the beautiful film “Rising” .

We filmed at 100 Bishopsgate and CityPoint with the most incredible views of a very deserted London.

The film can be viewed on YouTube (see above) or the Culture Mile website #play_london.
