It was suffragette Emily Davison\u2019s<\/b><\/a> birthday on Sunday 11th<\/sup> October<\/b>, now also the UN\u2019s<\/b> International Day of the Girl<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thank you to everyone who took part in our birthday tea celebrations<\/b>, which included a #VMDeeds<\/b> Twitter chat, tea and cake as well as a world\u2019s first: suffragette board game Pank-a-Squith<\/b> played live on Periscope!<\/p>\n

Despite, or perhaps because of a few technical glitches, not least the Periscope app stubbornly not switching off, much fun was had!<\/p>\n

We sang happy birthday to Emily and celebrated the courage, tenacity and downright brilliance of Emily Davison<\/b><\/a>, Sophia Duleep Singh<\/b><\/a>, Sylvia Pankurst<\/b><\/a> and their sister suffragettes with cake, raising a cup in honour of all who continue to fight for equality!<\/p>\n

It was a pleasure and a privilege to be in such good company, from around the world and in person (Naomi Paxton<\/b> – representing the AFL<\/b> & every other women\u2019s suffrage organisation in the world, ever<\/i>, no mean task! – Emilija Ellen<\/b>, Kirsty Murray<\/b>, Sabirah Ali<\/b>, Stephanie Fayerman<\/b> and Michelle Witton<\/b>).<\/p>\n
