In commemorating Emily\u2019s, tragic and untimely death it is also timely to remember \u00a0the somewhat exploitative nature of the subsequent Eulogizing employed by the WSPU.<\/p>\n

In The Suffragette June 13, 1913 Christabel Pankhurst<\/strong><\/a> remarked that, \u201cIt is a very hard thing to die.\u00a0 Life is dear. But the rarest of all rare things it is for a human being to lay down his life without any prompting of anguish personally felt or witnessed.\u00a0 It is only men and women of superhuman generosity and courage who can die for those unseen, unheard, unknown.\u00a0 This is what Emily Wilding Davison has done.<\/p>\n

Waiting there in the sun in that gay scene, amongst that heedless crowd, she had in her soul; that vision kept before her.\u00a0 Thus inspired, she threw herself in the fierce current of the race\u201d.<\/p>\n

Christabel remarked that Emily\u2019s death was \u201ca tremendous imaginative and spiritual achievement! \u00a0\u00a0A wonderful act of faith!\u201d<\/p>\n

So greatly did she care for freedom that she died for it.\u00a0 So dearly did she love women that she offered her life as their ransom.

In summing up Christabel finalized Emily\u2019s Eulogy by stating \u201cThat is the verdict given at the Great\u00a0 Inquest of the Nation<\/i> on the death of Emily Wilding Davison.\u201d<\/p>\n
