However, the Houses of Parliament as a whole continues to have a woeful record with regards to women&#8217;s representation.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent IPU (Inter-Parliamentary Union) statistics list the UK in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipu.org\/wmn-e\/classif.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>59th<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 place in the world, with women making up just 22.5% of the House of Commons. Whilst Rwanda tops the list with 63.8%.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.katewilloughby.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Emily-Head-Shot.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-1102 aligncenter\" alt=\"Emily Davison\" src=\"http:\/\/www.katewilloughby.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Emily-Head-Shot.jpg\" width=\"290\" height=\"321\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.katewilloughby.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Emily-Head-Shot.jpg 484w, https:\/\/www.katewilloughby.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Emily-Head-Shot-271x300.jpg 271w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 290px) 100vw, 290px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like it or not we live in a visual age. The campaign for a statue of Emily in Parliament is very much part of the push for more strong and intelligent women in Public life.<\/p>\n<p>Out of 100 non royal statues in Parliament, only 6 are of women &#8211; a sea of blokes in bronze and stone, which provides a stark reminder of inequality in Westminster and the UK as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>We want to continue Emily Davison&#8217;s powerful legacy and so invite you to\u00a0add your name to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/epetitions.direct.gov.uk\/petitions\/51269\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>statue petition<\/strong><\/a>, to ensure that a statue of Emily is erected in Parliament. A number of suffragettes boycotted the Census, as a form of protest. However, Emily took a different tack.
