They both wanted \u2018Votes for Women\u2019. However, they employed very different tactics.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk\/WfawcettM.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Milicent Garrett Fawcett<\/a><\/b> was a leading figure in the women\u2019s suffrage movement. She urged women and men to use peaceful and law abiding methods to gain votes for women.<\/p>\n<p>Whereas <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk\/WpankhurstE.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst<\/a><\/b>, became disillusioned with the lack of progress made by the suffragists. She formed the Women\u2019s Social and Political Union (<strong>WSPU<\/strong>) in 1903, a militant suffragist organization.<\/p>\n<p>The term \u201c<strong>suffragette<\/strong>\u201d was created by the The Daily Mail in 1906. It\u2019s original use was to mock those who employed militant tactics. However, it was soon taken up by the WSPU, who turned it to their advantage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brief \u00a0Definitions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Suffragette<br \/>\n<\/b>a woman in\u00a0Britain,\u00a0Australia, or the US in the early 20th\u00a0century\u00a0who was a member\u00a0of a\u00a0group that\u00a0demanded\u00a0the\u00a0right\u00a0of women to\u00a0vote\u00a0and that\u00a0increased knowledge\u00a0of the\u00a0subject\u00a0with a\u00a0series\u00a0of\u00a0public\u00a0protests.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/suffragette\" target=\"_blank\">Cambridge Dictionary<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Suffragist<br \/>\n<\/b>someone who supports suffrage, especially a supporter of the right of women to vote in the early 20<sup>th<\/sup> century.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/suffragist\" target=\"_blank\">Cambridge Dictionary<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Suffrage<br \/>\n<\/b>the right to vote in an election, especially for representatives in a parliament or similar organization.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/suffrage?q=suffrage\" target=\"_blank\">Cambridge Dictionary<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Universal suffrage<br \/>\n<\/b>the right of all adults to vote.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/dictionary.cambridge.org\/dictionary\/british\/suffrage?q=suffrage\" target=\"_blank\">Cambridge Dictionary<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the last general election, only <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.parliamentweek.org\/whats-new\/challenge-39\/\" target=\"_blank\">39%<\/a><\/b> of women aged 18 to 24 voted, compared to 50% of men the same age.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.katewilloughby.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Votesforwomenstrap.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" href=\"http:\/\/www.katewilloughby.co.uk\/?page_id=804\" target=\"_blank\"><b>TO FREEDOM\u2019S CAUSE<\/b><\/a> will be performed as part of a unique event in the Houses of Parliament in support of
