Event information<\/i><\/b><\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n This special event includes:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Supporters will be invited to sign a petition to erect a statue in Parliament and the debate will be opened on Twitter, using the hashtag #Emilymatters.<\/b><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Emily Thornberry MP comments: <\/b><\/p>\n \u201c<\/b>Emily Wilding Davison was a great campaigning feminist. Her struggle continues and she remains an icon for women even over a century after her death.\u201d<\/p>\n A statue of Emily Davison in Parliament will make a strong statement about the progress made so far in women\u2019s issues as well as a call to action for true equality. However, change will not occur by symbolic gestures alone.<\/p>\n The event will focus on Emily\u2019s living legacy, which continues with campaigns such as \u2018No More Page 3\u2019 and the \u2018Everyday Sexism Project\u2019. Yet, at the last election, only<\/b> 39% of women aged 18 to 24 voted<\/b>.
