Through drama and creativity we help empower young people to use their voice and be heard.
From the House of Commons to the Scottish Independence Referendum the 2015 General Election and the EU Referendum, #Emilymatters was there.
Bringing people together, to celebrate how far we have come and to empower a new generation to use their voice and be heard is central to the #Emilymatters initiative.

14th June 2018
On this day thousands of people turned out for the poignant funeral procession through London in honour of suffragette Emily Davison. She was hailed a Martyr to the Cause by the WSPU, yet just months before Emily was sidelined to a footnote in ‘The Suffragette’ newspaper as her militant tactics became increasingly troublesome to the leadership.
.
Researching ‘To Freedom’s Cause‘ brought to light the loyalty of Mary Leigh. She travelled to Morpeth (when health permitted) every year on the anniversary of Emily’s death long after the Great and the Good had faded away.
Mary tended Emily’s grave, remained in contact with Emily’s family, having travelled with Margaret, Emily’s mother, during the final part of the funeral procession to St Mary the Virgin church in Morpeth.
‘To Freedom’s Cause’ is a celebration of mothers and daughters, of friendship and of courage.
It is the story of Ordinary Women, Brave Women & Extraordinary women, with a call to action for future generations to:
“Keep pushing until women and men are equal. When no child is told she is unworthy that voice simply doesn’t matter because she is a girl. NO SURRENDER!”
We very much hope to be able to share this story with you this autumn.
See bit.ly/Emilymatters for updates.
In addition to our online events, we are also developing #Emilymatters outreach and creative projects that include interactive performances, talks, speeches and ‘To Freedom’s Cause‘.
