#votingmatters is a new campaign from #Emilymatters. which champions gender equality and encourages young women to vote, ensuring that legacies of women, such as suffragette Emily Davison, are not forgotten.
.
It’s only 6 months to the UK general election.
It’s only 6 months to the UK general election. Despite its best efforts Westminster fails to engage the majority of first time voters, especially young women. In 2010 only 39% of women aged 18 to 24 voted. There are some fantastic initiatives out there and #votingmatters is part of that rich tapestry.
Please join our #votingmatters Twitter chat, co-hosted by @Emilymatters & @AyathUllah on:
Sunday 23 November, 6.30-7pm GMT
Format: 30 minutes + 3 questions (including 1 from the brilliant Powered By Girl youth activists).

We have a growing digital archive of audience feedback for my Emily Davison play, To Freedom’s Cause, which was performed in the House of Commons in February 2014, as well as inspirational stories and written encouragement that clearly demonstrate the power of suffragette Emily Davison’s story and its continued relevance to women and young women alike.
Our #DearLauren message to a first time voter social media campaign brought in a positive encouragement from across the UK and beyond in time for Emily Davison’s birthday on 11th October.
.
Many of the messages came from young women and we’ll be sharing some more of these over the coming days.
Much of the #votingmatters campaign in the run up to the UK general election will be focused on social media.
